UPDATE 11th Dec 2021

Cat went out Friday 10th December 2021 at 5.54pm and has not returned to date. He had good feeds & sleep for most of Friday and the previous days. Since it’s been raining most of the day I’m hoping he’s sheltering somewhere. I’ve been expecting him to disappear one day. I shall miss him.

Cat is the name of my cat lodger. I don’t know who owns him or even if anybody does. I saw him visit the gardens for many months via the security cameras. Worryingly late at night he would cross the main road (at high speed) to get to the park before returning later. Whenever I saw him in the garden he would run a mile and disappear. I did manage to see him dive into the garage via a loose panel that was boarding up the window but had become a huge cat flap.

On many occasions he would come down to the closed conservatory window and peer in. But if I stood or moved towards him he would shoot off. After leaving the door ajar he would venture into the conservatory, have a mooch around before settling down to watch the birds from the doorway before snoozing for a few hours.

I started putting down small amounts of dry cat food in a dish regularly and he would always turn up to eat the lot. I kept it to a small amount just in case he did have a home or was being fed by other households.

Gradually I moved the food into the house and eventually he entered to eat and sleep. Although very skittish he soon was happy with being approached and being stroked. He soon found the sofa and would sleep for hours by my side. He also found the window sills to sit on and the beds upstairs to fall asleep on for most of the day. He also quickly found his water bowl in the hall. A fast learner.

For the time being I feed him and he sleeps in my house until he decides to go out when it gets dark, for his nocturnal activities. He’s very persistent and meows when it gets dark to be let out. He is then ready to come back inside each morning from about 4am onwards. Occasionally he returns before midnight and stays overnight on the bed quite happily.
